Case Study - Telecommunications Review
The following example is taken from an actual Dog and Bone client.
Client A is a large manufacturer of farm equipment, whose mobile phones were nearing the end of their contract. They requested that Dog and Bone conduct a full Telecommunications Review, taking their mobile fleet to market in order to obtain the best outcomes for them.
Client A’s incumbent carrier came back with a worthy but dull offer that generated projected savings of about 17%, or $47.3k. We felt we could do better than that.
In fact, we believed we could do much better just by tweaking the incumbent carrier’s own plans. We discovered that by correctly tailoring these plans to Client A’s specific usage patterns, Dog and Bone could increase their projected savings by a further 10%, or another $30k. So now Client A was set to save over $77k, just by staying with their current carrier. Our analysis tools enabled us to do this, coupled with a knowledge of each carrier’s offers that often exceeds the carrier’s own.
Then we got creative.
Well, Client A was running a decent sized fleet of Blackberries, using Lotus Notes. Our industry knowledge told us that IBM was due to release iNotes in Australia, which replicates the Lotus Notes client within an iPhone’s Safari browser. What if we replaced the Blackberries with iPhones? Well, that would save a few thousand dollars a month on Blackberry Access fees for starters. It would also take care of Client A’s desire for a GPS solution, since iPhones come with Google Maps. Furthermore, the plans we’d optimised for Client A included heavily subsidised iPhones as an option. It seemed to be ticking a lot of boxes. Plus, well, who doesn’t love a new iPhone? It turns out Client A did not have any firm attachment to Blackberry.
The upshot was that these measures generated further savings of 17%, or another $44k, bringing total savings on mobiles to 44.1%, or about $120k over the length of the agreement. And this is without having to even leave the incumbent carrier.
